A clearer position for your interior design studio

How interior designers can describe their point of view, ideal projects and process with more clarity.

A portfolio shows what you have made. Positioning helps a prospective client understand why your studio is right for their project.

Start with the work you want more of

Look at the projects you would be excited to repeat. Are they full-home renovations, new-build residences, boutique hospitality spaces or a particular design sensibility? Your current portfolio may include a wider range; your positioning can still lead with the work you want to attract next.

Write a one-sentence description that names your audience, the type of spaces you shape and the experience you bring. Keep it specific enough that someone can picture working with you. “Thoughtful interiors” may sound appealing, but it says little about your process or the decisions you help clients make.

Show the process behind the image

Beautiful photography captures attention. A short project story gives it context: the client’s brief, the constraint you solved, the decisions you made and the result. This also helps people understand the scope of your service, rather than judging your work only by style.

Choose three to five projects that reflect your preferred work. Give each a clear title and a brief narrative. If the client’s name or location is private, focus on the type of space and the design challenge.

Make the next step feel clear

State what happens after an inquiry: an introductory conversation, a project review or a consultation. Explain the information you need to assess fit, such as location, scope, timeline and approximate investment. Clarity makes the first contact easier for both sides.

Try this: Ask someone unfamiliar with your studio to read your homepage for 20 seconds. Can they tell what you design, whom you work with and how to begin?
